Pi Kappa Alpha
Beta Pi, a brief history

The Beta Pi chapter of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity was chartered on November 30, 1920 by a group including founding brothers John F.E. Hippel and Dave Maxwell. The Beta Pi chapter has since initiated nearly 3000 brothers.

In the fall of 1968, the Beta Pi Chapter moved to its current location at 3916 Spruce Street. The move was made possible by the generosity of the "Old Guard," including such Beta Pi legends as Joe Moore, Joe Livezy, and Ray Kaelin.

In the summer of 1973, the Beta Pi chapter won the first of four Smythe Awards for best overall chapter with repeats in 1974, 1975, and 1976. The award returned to the Beta Pi chapter three more times in the 1980's.

2008 marks the 40th anniversary of the Beta Pi house at 3916 Spruce.

Notable Beta Pi Brothers:

In August of 1953, John Hippel was elected President of the National PIKA Fraternity.
