| 2009 Raymond L. Orians Chapter Excellence Awards |

The Raymond L. Orians Chapter Excellence Award recognizes overall chapter excellence. The chapters that win this award are amongst the best on their campus and Pi Kappa Alpha’s most competitive chapters.
The qualifications for this award are:
-A year-end overall awards score of at least a 3.0 (out of 4.0)
-An active membership of at least 50 initiates
-An accredited chapter advisor
-Chapter representation at all Pike University events (including at least one Leadership Summit)
This was our first time winning this award in almost 20 years. This is the 2nd highest award a chapter can be given. |

Penn Pikes are proud to announce that is the 2008-2009 academic year they donated close to 800 community service hours and were the number 3 Greek Houses in total amount of money raised. |

| 2009 SLAG Award Winner |

In March, the Beta Pi Chapter announced their SLAG Award Winners, recognizing the chapter's most outstanding Scholar, Leader, Athlete, and Gentleman.
This year's winners were:
SCHOLAR – This year’s scholar winner has always placed academics in the highest regard, as demonstrated by his 3.90 GPA in Philosophy Politics and Economics. In addition to keeping good grades, he works as a research assistant under a political science professor and as a teaching assistant for a graduate level government administration class. He has also has served as Executive VP of Mock Trial for the past 2 years. His commitment to his academics should serve as an inspiration to as all. It is my pleasure to present this year’s scholar award to Kyle Wirshba.
LEADERSHIP – This year’s leadership winner has served the chapter in many different capacities. He served 3 years on the Executive Board as Brother-at-Large, Sergeant-at-Arms, and Treasurer, and was also an Assistant New Member Educator. He is a three sport intramural captain, championing most of our efforts in this department, and is always the first to spearhead efforts to have the entire brotherhood together, weather at the gym or, more often, the bar. His commitment to leading through actions, not words is a great legacy. This years leadership award goes to Brandon Steinberg.
ATHLETE – This year’s athlete winner has been a Varsity Golfer since his freshman year. He was Penn’s top finisher at last years Big 5 Classic and tied for fifth overall at the event. At the 2009 GW Invitational, he finished 8th in a field of 117 athletes. In the spring of 2009 he was #1 on the depth chart as Penn vied for the Ivy title. Even while maintaining his high level of play, he has also served as Sergeant-at-Arms and is a strong contributor to life in the fraternity. This year’s athlete award goes to Brett Rendina.
GENTLEMAN - This year’s gentleman award goes to guy who is involved in many aspects of life here in Pike and on campus. He posses a tremendous voice as demonstrated by his dedication to Pike’s thriving House band as Lead Singer and guitarist. He is also a member of Penn 6. He is strong social presence, often times lending his house for social events and was a nominee for the 2009 Big Man On Campus– AXO’s prestigious annual event. After graduation, he will be attending Medical School. This year’s gentlemen award goes to Rich Schmidt. |

Dan Keefe ('09) has been named a McNair Scholar (http://www.vpul.upenn.edu/aap/mcnair/). A member of the track team, Dan also finds time to serve as a Peer Counselor and has plans to be a part of the Big Brothers and Sisters program. He also drives a zamboni. |

In March 2009 the brothers of the Beta Pi chapter gathered to celebrate Founders Day at the Inn at Penn.

The Dave Herman Memorial Scholarship Award was awarded to Brendan Dutch.
Brendan has been a strong leader at Beta Pi for three years, serving as House Manager, Internal Vice President, Assistant Pledge Educator, and Head Pledge Educator. Living in the house for three years, Brendan has always exhibited a can-do attitude based on mutual respect and sincerity. As an undergraduate Brendan has been a serious student pursuing a dual major in English and European History and plans to attend Tulane Law School. |

In March of this year Reid Fletcher '10 won the chance to host a one hour radio show on WXPN’s Penn Rocks Y-Rock segment.
Reid won the chance by submitting a playlist online. As DJ, he played music by bands like The Shins, Modest Mouse, Arcade Fire, and many more. |
